When you die you come to the Realm of Death where you have the opportunity to rebirth. The King of Althera guards the world and the powers it holds.
You have the option to buy back the items you had before you died, but it will cost you -1 heart. If you choose to sell one of your hearts, you will return to the overworld with one less heart, unless you Kill a Ghoul and consume their heart to get yours back.
You can have a maximum of 10 hearts. You will never have less than 4 hearts in total.
Kill a Ghoul and consume their heart to get yours back. The Realm of the Death is divided into 5 zones, all with different levels of difficulty. Visit the Death Market and buy some Death Wielder equipment. Based on the level you are you'll have a wider selection of equipment.
When you reach higher levels, you need to enter more difficult zones in order to get back your hearts. Read more here.
To get back to where you died, you can buy a Teleport Scroll that teleport you to where you died. Otherwise, you can jump into the portal in front of you or off the island and be teleported back to the overworld.
The Death Market is the place to go to equip yourself when fighting Ghouls. Here you can buy pre-made kits in exchange of Gold. Some merchants will not accept trades with you until you reach a high enough level or other criteria they may have.
There are five zones in total where Ghouls exist. When you get stronger and level up, a regular heart will no longer work on you. Then you have to go further into their area and hunt down stronger Ghouls.
